CV / Bio

Ilia Apostalaki is a Berlin-based photographer with a background in computer science and information security. His practice focuses on people within public, urban, and socially charged environments, with particular attention to gesture, presence, and the details through which individuality becomes visible. Through direct contact and close observation, he looks for the person behind the event, whether in political gatherings, street life, or working environments. Architecture runs alongside this as a parallel and recurring subject — the built environment observed for its own scale, permanence, and character, standing in quiet contrast to the people who pass through it. Across public gatherings, everyday street life, and working spaces, the two subjects keep returning to the same question: how a place and the people who move through it define one another.
